STRATA GROUP

Strata Group Limited – the home of quality and reliability

Strata has been a trusted name within the replacement window industry for since 1981, serving Stoke-on-Trent and the surrounding areas. We have an impressive range of windows, doors, conservatories and cane furniture all on display in our three showrooms. Here at Strata Window World we realise that our reputation depends on your opinion of us when our installation is complete.

Because of all this all our time-served installers are extremely precise when it comes to adding that finishing touch to every job they do.

All windows, doors and conservatories are accurately measured to ensure the minimum of tolerance around the edge of the frames, with any that remain being filled giving you the standard of finish that looks perfect. Any trims or architraves that are required will be fitted to your complete satisfaction.

We also insist that each team carries a quality hoover to clean up any fragments of frame that may be scattered around their working area.

It’s these finishing touches that lead to our customers comments like:

“Your installers were brilliant – Our house was cleaner when they left than when they began”

“A very big thank you to your team of fitters – The quality of workmanship and the finished results are outstanding”

Orangeries by Strata

In an uncertain world it is reassuring to know that there is a company that has built an enviable reputation for Quality, Expertise, Service and Trust to provide bespoke structures for our many clients from conception to completion, on time, on budget, while showing respect to their design brief and property.

We have taken the best features of the Victorian and Edwardian eras to build an elegant orangery, conservatory or garden room that reflect sympathetically the design features of our client’s dwelling. We also design superb contemporary orangery concepts for more modern properties.

Our journey so far

1984 Leek Road, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent

1984 Leek Road, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent

The company founder, Finlay Walker, had started to sell a small number of sliding patio door sets from his home in Werrington, Stoke-on-Trent, having installed one into his garage.

As the success of these sales grew, Finlay soon realised that he needed to expand his displays and set up a small showroom in Leek Road, Stoke-on-Trent, opposite the Staffs University buildings.

This small shop was known as Strata Sales Company and was the foundation of the company at that time.

When Finlay had the shop running, he gave up his full time position at a local DIY Superstore, paving the way for the company to grow and was soon joined by an ex-colleague and friend, Phil Dulson. Together they would travel to Liverpool and collect as many of the door sets as the car roof rack would hold!

The popularity of the patio doors was growing at extraordinary rates and was now moving towards householders buying double glazed windows in order to insulate their homes. Finlay and Phil soon embraced this and when the opportunity to expand further came along, they decided that the premises also needed to be bigger and display more products. They decided that a prominent, well positioned showroom with high visibilty was needed and purchased an old pottery building, Britannia Pottery on Leek Road, Cobridge. Major renovation work was required so they set about converting a large area into showroom space. The premises was big enough to also start to manufacture aluminium windows and doors and so the birth of Strata manufacturing began.

In 1990 business was booming for Strata so an opportunity to start making hardwood windows came along and the workshop and joinery shop was formed, once again giving Strata a leading edge.

1991 The team grows bigger...

1991 The team grows bigger…

Success within the double glazing industry was growing but unfortunately there were cowboys entering the market who were out to cash in on short term pressure selling scams. Finlay had very high morals and was determined not to employ any kind of pressure selling techniques. Based on this, the company began to gain a very strong reputation for being good guys and trust was growing between families, friends and colleagues. Because of this popularity, the company realised that expansion of staff was a must and a campaign to find the right staff was launched.

Finlay also knew that he needed a co-director that could talk to customers and win over their approval and a new Operations Director was drafted in, Tony Thornhill. Tony grew the operation from there and expanded the business into commercial markets and Strata became the preferred installer by Staffordshire County Council.
